Cary Family Dental Now Offering I.V. Sedation

Cary Family Dental is excited to announce that it is now offering intravenous (I.V.) sedation to patients. The practice hired licensed sedation dentist Dr. Parth Parekh, and passed an in-office evaluation to receive its sedation permit from the North Carolina State Board or Dental Examiners.

Before joining the Cary Family Dental team, Parekh completed a two-year general practice residency at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he received extensive training in surgical and implant dentistry, I.V. sedation, wisdom teeth extractions, Invisalign, and managing medically compromised and anxious patients.

Due to the extensive requirements to become certified in I.V. sedation, only about 10 percent of all dentists in North Carolina offer this important service to their patients.

I.V. sedation is considered to be a safe option for patients with intense fear or phobia of the dentist, or those receiving a large amount of dental work in a single visit. Unlike general anesthesia, patients remain conscious under I.V. sedation and retain the ability to communicate with the doctor during the procedure.

The medicine that is released in the I.V. line is fast-acting, tailored to the individual’s needs, and safe for most patients, even those with preexisting heart conditions or high blood pressure.

Dr. Allan Acton is the owner and founder of Cary Family Dental, practicing general, cosmetic and restorative dentistry. The practice also offers emergency dental care, and snoring and sleep apnea treatment to patients in the western suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina.
