Celebrating 50 Years of Shamrock Shake! McDonald's Unveils New McFlurry as Charitable Shake Reaches Major Milestone

Bookmark and Share Charlotte, NC - February 11, 2020 -

Celebrating 50 years of the Shamrock Shake! This week, McDonald’s restaurants in Charlotte welcome back the beloved Shamrock Shake to support the Queen City’s local Ronald McDonald House. In addition to the classic Shamrock Shake, McDonald’s is also unveiling a brand new sweet treat to celebrate this major milestone – the Oreo Mint McFlurry. Proceeds from both products will support area families in a desperate time of need: keeping them close to their young children while they’re being cared for at local hospitals.

2020 marks 50 years since the Shamrock Shake was first introduced in 1970. Ever since the unveiling five decades ago, the Shamrock Shake has been a McDonald’s customer favorite. In 1974, donations from Shamrock Shake sales helped establish the very first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia.

The giving tradition of the Shamrock Shake will continue this year as a portion of every Shake and McFlurry sold from Monday, February 10th – Tuesday, March 17th will support families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte and the other six Houses across the state. With just a few dollars, customers can enjoy the minty, green classic and an exciting new dessert while supporting a night stay for a family in need.

Families with a child being treated at an area hospital shouldn’t have to worry about where they will stay, if they can afford it, or when they might get their next meal or shower. They should only have to worry about supporting and loving their child. That’s where the local Ronald McDonald House comes in and where customers’ small change can make a big difference.
