Enterprising Women Inducts Dr. Patricia Greene Into Its Hall of Fame, Presents Legacy And Advocacy Awards To Women Leaders

RALEIGH, N.C., May 18, 2015 – Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine, recognized Dr. Patricia Greene, Dr. Marsha Firestone, Kathryn Homeyer, Dr. Makaziwe Mandela, Tukwini Mandela and Nely Galån as special honorees during the 2015 Enterprising Women of the Year Awards Celebration & Conference, an annual tribute to the world’s top women entrepreneurs, from March 29 to 31 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Greene is the 2015 Enterprising Women Hall of Fame inductee. She holds the Paul T. Babson Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she formerly served as provost from 2006 to 2008 and dean of the Undergraduate School from 2003 to 2006. Her current assignment at Babson is as the academic director for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses and 10,000 Women initiative. Greene is the founding member of the Diana Project, a research group focusing on women entrepreneurs, a federal appointee to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Small Business Development Centers, and the co-owner of Artworks, a specialty home goods store in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Firestone is a recipient of the 2015 Enterprising Women Legacy Award. She is president and founder of the Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO), with a mission to serve as a peer advisory group for women who own multi-million dollar businesses. Today WPO has 1,800 members in 120 global chapters including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Peru, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Portugal, Turkey, Israel, North Africa, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Firestone also founded the Women Presidents’ Educational Organization, which is dedicated to increasing access to business opportunities for women’s business enterprises. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and is an original member of the Enterprising Women Advisory Board.

Homeyer is a recipient of the 2015 Enterprising Women Legacy Award. She is director for the UPS Supplier Diversity Program, where she manages internal and external programs designed to increase representation of small, minority- and women-owned businesses in UPS’s supplier network. Homeyer is also involved with Corporate Procurement Commodities purchasing opportunites. Retiring from her UPS post in June, she has been a longtime member of the Enterprising Women Advisory Board and strong advocate for the publication. She is actively involved in the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

Makaziwe Mandela, CEO of House of Mandela, and her daughter Tukwini, director of marketing, were recipients of the Legacy Award for their company, a winery they founded in South Africa to honor the legacy of late President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. The eldest daughter and granddaughter of the famed leader, the mother-daughter team are leading one of the few South African women-owned wineries, incorporating the values and mission of the Mandela name into the company.

Galån is the recipient of the 2015 Enterprising Women Advocacy Award. Serving as the president of Telemundo, Galån was the first Latina president of a United States television network and the first Latina to appear on “Celebrity Apprentice” with Donald Trump. She is an Emmy Award-winning producer of 600 episodes of television in Spanish and English, including the reality series “The Swan.” Galån is the founder of the Adelante Movement, which means “Move Forward!”, to build a grassroot movement that empowers Latinas financially and through entrepreneurship across the country. Adelante encourages Latinas to play a key role in American society, economics and politics.
