On March 20, the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Raleigh-Durham Chapter will partially sponsor an event featuring Ken Roman, author of David Ogilvy: The Original Mad Man. The event is the first in a series of lectures in honor of the 20th anniversary of The Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising and Marketing History at Duke University.

Roman is the former CEO of Ogilvy & Mather and the author of the new book The King of Madison Avenue: David Ogilvy and the Making of Modern Advertising. He served as the Chairman of Ogilvy & Mather from 1985 to 1989, and currently serves as Vice Chairman of The New York Botanical Garden and Director of The National Organization on Disability. Roman has also co-authored two books, How to Advertise and Writing That Works.

“This event is a great opportunity to hear from a celebrated advertising professional,” said Betsy Kennihan, first vice president/programs chair of AAF-RDU. “Mr. Roman has contributed a great deal to the advertising profession during his career, and this event is sure to entertain and educate all who attend.”

The event is free to the public and will be held in the Gothic Reading Room in Perkins Library. A reception will begin at 5p.m. with light hors d’oeuvres and drinks. At 6p.m., Roman will speak about David Ogilvy, and will sign books afterwards. Although the event is free, attendees must RSVP at http://www.aaf-rdu.org.
