Inaugural election of Indian American Hari Nath to the UNC System Board of Governors

Mr. Hari H. Nath (aka Harish Mathur) was recently elected by the NC House of Representatives to the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina System (Board). Mr. Nath was sworn in to the position on August 11,2011

Mr. Nath, a current member of the Board of Advisors to NC- INPAC, is the inaugural Indian-American elected to one of the most prestigious Boards in NC. The Board sets policies, programs, budgets and priorities for the 16 public universities and School of Science and Math in North Carolina.

This is a major milestone for the Indian-American community in North Carolina and we are proud to say that NC-INPAC played a significant role in this appointment. It is a credit to Mr. Nath’s achievements and service through social and political activism over the years. We extend our sincere congratulations to Mr. Nath for this well deserved election.

"For the next four years, I hope to contribute to the UNC Board of Governors to the best of my ability and advance our goal of promoting excellence in higher education," said Mr. Nath on his election.

Mr. Nath was founder and CEO of an IT Management consulting firm, TPMC, for 14 years (1987-2001). Since acquisition of TPMC by a large firm in 2001, Mr. Nath has devoted his energies to community service and political activism in NC. In addition to NC-INPAC, Mr. Nath serves as a Chairman of the Board of Advisors, for the Carying Place Inc, a Cary based nonprofit organization. Mr. Nath has been actively serving Town of Cary, on several Boards and Commission since 2003 and has been a member of the Planning and Zoning Board for past 5 years. Mr. Nath has been actively involved in NC State politics for past 15 years.

Mr. Nath received his B.E. in Mining Engineering from the University of Jodhpur, India and received his M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1971. He is married for 38 years to Kalpana Nath and has a daughter Juhi Kachalia and son Neilesh Nath

This appointment resulted from the hard work of many community members who ensured an active involvement of our community in the socio-political fabric of the State over many years. It's crucial that this engagement continue to flourish in order for our future generations to be fully integrated and proud citizens of this State and Country.

We wish Mr. Nath the best in this very important role at a time when higher education could use another strong proponent.
