January 6, 2015 – Durham, NC – There’s a new dessert in town – Smallcakes, A Cupcakery, is now baking in Southern Durham! Smallcakes, a popular nationwide cupcake brand, recently opened in Durham at 4711 Hope Valley Road (in the Woodcroft Shopping Center) and will be showcasing their award-winning treats at the Grand Opening on Saturday, January 24th.

Smallcakes was founded by Kansas City’s Jeff Martin in 2009 and has grown to over 90 locations offering specialty cupcakes baked fresh daily in every store. Smallcakes has received national recognition with appearances on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, the morning television show The View, and was even listed as one of the Top Ten Cupcake Places to try in the country by USA Today.

“We’re thrilled to have a cupcakery in Southern Durham and we’ve received a fantastic response from the community over the past few weeks,” says Martin. “We pride ourselves on delivering delicious cupcakes made fresh every morning. Durham is really making a name for itself with some of the best restaurants and bakeries in the country and we are so excited to be a part of that growing reputation.”

The cupcakery’s daily menu features 12 signature flavors – Birthday Cake, Caramel Crunch, Chocolate Cream, Chocoholic, Cookies N Crème, Hot Fudge Sundae, Lemon Drop, Peanut Butter Cup, Pink Chocolate, Pink Vanilla, Red Velvet, and Vanilla-N-Chocolate – as well as a rotation of over 100 specialty flavors.

Smallcakes Durham is owned and operated by Durham resident Andrew Fisher and two of his close Durham friends. Fisher says, “I hope our passion for amazing cupcakes, great customer service and all things local is evident from the first moment you step into the shop.” Smallcakes Durham is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and noon to 5pm on Sundays.
