Person of the Year
February 6, 2019
For Immediate Release
Melissa Overton, President and CEO of the innovative leadership, safety, and interactive training company, MedicalTraining.me, was announced as the award recipient of the celebrated Jimmy Creech Small Business Person of the Year.
The 2018 Small Business Person of the Year Award, recognizing Overton’s professional innovation and success, as well as her energetic commitment and extensive contributions to the Triangle East communities, was received at the 49th Annual Smithfield-Selma Chamber Annual Meeting and Awards ceremony.
The Award is named in honor of Mr. Creech, the late pharmacist who ran a business and served the Smithfield community for more than 50 years. The Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce is entering its 50th year of operation; Overton has been a member since she opened her business in downtown Smithfield.
MedicialTraining.me, launched in 2013, started as a company to provide continuing education for medical professionals and CPR/First Aid/AED training for companies and non-health care individuals. Melissa, a former nurse with 14 years of ER experience (proudly educated at ECU), handled every aspect of the business and classes herself.
Today, Overton has 22 contractors working with her to provide leading-edge and engaging training on an impressive range of topics: from Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Wilderness First Aid to OSHA 10/30 and custom “Train the Trainer”/People Management 101 courses.
The company meets the diverse training needs of health care organizations, schools, day care, clinics, local businesses, community groups, churches, or individuals.
Overton herself is an International John Maxwell certified trainer providing customized management/leadership courses, as well as delivering keynote and workshop speaking engagements.
