Bookmark and Share Bonsal, N.C. - April 24, 2014 -

The Triangle’s Train, New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), celebrates National Train Day on Saturday, May 10, at its rail yard in Bonsal, NC and at the Amtrak® Cary Station. Train enthusiasts and supporters participate in National Train Day across the country each year.

National Train Day, sponsored by Amtrak and now in its seventh year, promotes trains of all types and sizes, their effects on our culture, economy and environment, and the growth of the overall industry. NHVR will partake in the day at its rail yard with diesel train rides, steam engine discussions, storytime with Uncle John between rides, and train car walk-throughs. The railroad will also have a booth at the Amtrak Cary Station, equipped with video of operating NHVR trains and additional information.

“We’ll spend the day not only offering diesel train rides, but also educating families about the historical influence of trains and the roles they play today,” said Dave Chasco, volunteer marketing committee chairman.

Two new rail yard additions -- a RDC-9 passenger car and an Alco S1 locomotive--were delivered in mid-April and are being restored by volunteers to operating condition. The RDC-9 has the potential to be put into service as a heated and air conditioned coach and the Alco S1 is mechanically sound but needs some cosmetic work to fully operate.

The Manna Concessions food truck will be in the rail yard serving a variety of items, including hot dogs gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, drinks and snacks.

Upcoming ride days include May 10 (National Train Day), May 23, June 14, June 27, July 12 (Military Appreciation Day), July 25, July 27 (Ice Cream Social), August 9, August 22, September 13, September 21 (Food Truck Rodeo), September 26 and November 8. See the complete schedule at www.TriangleTrain.com for diesel train departure times and ticket information. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online. Any unsold tickets will be available at the train yard the day of the ride.
