RALEIGH, N.C. - Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic is proud to welcome Venu M. Nemani, M.D., Ph.D., to the practice effective September 6, 2016. Dr. Nemani is a fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in cervical and reconstructive spinal surgery.

Dr. Nemani has advanced training in all aspects of spine surgery, and he has an expertise in cervical spine surgery as well as minimally invasive and reconstructive spine surgery. He believes in a comprehensive approach to treat spinal problems conservatively before considering an operation.

After graduating magna cum laude from Duke University, Dr. Nemani attended the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. While at UCSF, he also completed a Ph.D. in neuroscience. Dr. Nemani then completed his internship and residency at Cornell University/Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

During his residency, Dr. Nemani was awarded the Andrew Swanson Alumni Traveling fellowship and operated with leading spine surgeons throughout Japan. At UCSF, he discovered a new mechanism by which nerve signaling is modulated with implications for neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, Dr. Nemani served as a volunteer spine surgeon in Ghana, where he treated spinal deformities in both pediatric and adult patients.

Dr. Nemani has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed research articles and 15 book chapters, and given more than 35 podium and poster presentations at national and international conferences. He serves as a journal reviewer for the Hospital of Special Surgery Journal and Bone and Joint Journal and continues to be actively involved in spinal research. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), AO Spine and the North American Spine Society (NASS).
