RTP CFO Forum to Discuss New Tangible Property Regulations
The RTP CFO Forum will hold its next monthly meeting on Friday, December 6, 2013. The organization serves as a peer-to-peer networking opportunity for more than 200 senior financial executives in the Triangle area to discuss topics of interest. The featured speaker will be Amy Smith, partner at Hughes Pittman & Gupton, LLP. She will discuss the new IRS regulations issued on September 13, 2013 related to the capitalization of tangible personal property and the steps every business must take in 2013 and 2014 to comply with the guidance. Smith will also discuss some taxpayer friendly planning opportunities associated with this new guidance.
“For companies that have a large investment in capitalized assets, the new regulations will significantly impact what costs are required to be capitalized versus expensed and how asset dispositions are treated,” says Brooks Malone, HPG Partner. “Amy will help forum members understand what is needed to be in compliance and how to maximize some new tax benefits.”
Smith has nearly 20 years of public accounting experience. She joined Hughes Pittman & Gupton, LLP in 2008 and became a partner in 2013. Her primary focus includes tax compliance and consulting for businesses. Smith’s experience includes multistate and international tax compliance, accounting for income taxes and tax planning strategies. She is also a member of HPG’s Mergers and Acquisition Advisory Team.
The RTP CFO Forum meets the first Friday of every month from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at the Hughes Pittman & Gupton, LLP office in Raleigh. Membership in the forum is free, limited to CFOs and by invitation only. To request to join the group, please email join@rtpcfos.com.
