SearStone Donates More than $290K to Local Charities
As written in its charter as a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community, SearStone contributes five percent of its gross revenue to local charities that benefit Wake County residents. The Samaritan Housing Foundation/SearStone Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the community distributed $290,500 in grants to 12 different charities over the past year.
During the recent grant cycle, SearStone provided grants to the following nonprofit organizations:
Caring Community Foundation
Habitat for Humanity of Wake County
Meals on Wheels Wake County
Note in the Pocket
Pretty in Pink Foundation
Rebuilding Together of the Triangle
Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen
Temple Baptist Church
Transitions LifeCare
Triangle Aphasia Project Unlimited
Triangle Family Services
Women’s Center of Wake County
A joint committee comprised of SearStone resident and advisors from Lutheran Services Carolinas vetted the nonprofit organizations and decided which ones would receive grants. This year’s contributions ranged from $6,000 to $60,000.
“Giving back to the local community is part of the SearStone experience,” said Vinson Bankoski, SearStone’s executive director. “Many of our residents volunteer with local charities, participate in onsite food drives and toy drives, and help us select our grant recipients. It just goes to show you that philanthropy is ageless.”
