Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants has appointed Joshua Miller, MD, as the practice’s Corporate Medical Director. Miller replaces Richard Gilbert, MD, MBA, who served as the head of the practice for 20 years.

One of the largest anesthesiology practices in the region, Southeast was established in 1981 and employs more than 100 anesthesia and pain management physicians who work in hospitals and clinical settings in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The practices mission is to provide high quality, cost-efficient and service-oriented care for its more than 165,000 anesthesia and pain management patients each year.

Miller joined the practice in 1990 and has served on its executive committee since 1992. Prior to his appointment, he was the medical director for Southeast Pain Care, a specialty sub-practice of Southeast Anesthesiology, for over 20 years. As Miller moves into his new role, JonDavid Hoppenfeld, MD, will succeed him as the Medical Director for Southeast Pain Care.

Miller earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. His residency was in anesthesiology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he also completed a fellowship in pain management. Miller is double-board certified in anesthesiology and pain management.

Gilbert served first as the CEO and then Corporate Medical Director when Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants was acquired by American Anesthesiology in 2010. He was recently promoted to Chief Medical Officer for American Anesthesiology.
