The Carolina Center Discusses Overcoming Lyme and Lyme-Associated Disorders on September 13
As part of his continuing health series, John C. Pittman, MD, of the Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine (CCIM), will present “Overcoming Lyme and Lyme-Associated Disorders” on Tuesday, June 7 from 7:00-8:00pm. This free presentation will be held at CCIM’s office at 4505 Fair Meadow Lane, Suite 111 in Raleigh and will help shed some light on the threat and treatment of this serious bacterial infection.
“Tick-borne infections are increasing at a drastic rate throughout the country and especially in North Carolina,” explains Dr. Pittman. “Many individuals with mysterious symptoms who have been to numerous doctors will eventually be diagnosed with chronic Lyme Disease, but treatment options are often limited and confusing. I hope that this presentation will help individuals understand how physicians practicing Integrative Medicine are on the front line in helping individuals diagnosed with Lyme Disease.”
According to the Center for Disease Control Division of Vector-Borne Infectious Diseases, between 1993 and 2005, there were 1,036 confirmed cases of Lyme Disease reported in North Carolina. If left untreated, individuals with Lyme Disease can end up with serious complications including arthritis in the large joints, nervous system problems, and irregularities of the heart rhythm. Early detection is the key to fighting this disease.
“Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnesses can become chronic systemic and debilitating infections, often persisting despite antibiotic therapy,” adds Dr. Pittman. “The seriousness of these conditions, the challenges posed by their diagnoses, and their resistance to treatment all necessitate an individualized, integrative treatment approach that supports the immune, endocrine, neurological, digestive, and musculoskeletal systems. The Carolina Center’s clinical experience has shown that that proper integration of these strategies can help patients overcome this difficult disorder.”
The 60-minute presentation will cover such topics as understanding the threat and symptoms of Lyme Disease, understanding available treatments and care, and knowing what measures to take in order to protect yourself and your family. Seating for this presentation is limited and advanced registration is recommended in case of cancellation.
