Three Summer Ride Days at New Hope Valley Railway

New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), the Triangle’s Train, will host three family-friendly summer ride days in June and July.

Brew ‘n’ Choo is Saturday, June 25; Military Appreciation Day is Sunday, July 10; and Diesel, Steam & Ice Cream is Saturday, July 30. All events will be held at the rail yard located 30 minutes southwest of Raleigh, 3900 Bonsal Rd. in New Hill.

Saturday, June 25: Brew ‘n’ Choo

Enjoy train rides, craft beers, local wine, food and live music at NHVR during its third Brew ‘n’ Choo of the season. Carolina Brewery, RagApple Lassie Vineyards, County Line Sweets food truck and Bruster’s Real Ice Cream of Apex will be at the rail yard. Dry Bread Road and Last Band Standing will play live music.

Beginning at 4 p.m., trains will depart every hour with the last ride leaving at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $12/adults, $11/seniors (ages 60+) and $10/children (ages 2-12), under two is free. NHVR recommends purchasing tickets online at www.TriangleTrain.com.

“While waiting for their train’s departure or after the hour-long excursion, visitors can enjoy the on-site North Carolina Railway Museum (NCRM) that includes a collection of antique train cars, artifacts and historic train memorabilia,” said Dave Chasco, NHVR marketing director.

Sunday, July 10: Military Appreciation Day

The July 10 Military Appreciation Day honors military personnel and their families. Military personnel (active duty, reserve, National Guard, retired or veterans) who show their military I.D. at the ticket booth will receive a free family four pack on the diesel train excursions only for themselves and up to three immediate family members (limit four tickets total).

The diesel train rides depart at 11 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. The free tickets are only available at the rail yard ticket booth and not through online ticket sales. Train rides can sell out.

“Shortly after Independence Day, our Military Appreciation ride day is our way of thanking soldiers and veterans for their service and honoring their families with free tickets for our diesel locomotive,” said Chasco.

Tickets for the public cost $10/ adults, $9/seniors and $7/children for diesel train rides. Steam tickets for all guests cost $15/adults, $14/seniors and $9/children with steam train rides departing at 12:15 and 3 p.m.

Face painting by Parties & Art Adventures by Lynne Fischer will be available to visitors from 1-4 p.m.

Saturday, July 30: Diesel, Steam & Ice Cream

The July 30 Diesel, Steam & Ice Cream event offers two generous scoops of ice cream and toppings for free with the purchase of a train ticket. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream of Apex will serve four of its most popular flavors and toppings. Families can enjoy the cool treat before, during or after their train ride.

“Our ice cream social, held during National Ice Cream Month, has become a popular family event. Last year, riders enjoyed more than 40 gallons of ice cream,” Chasco said.

Trains depart at 11, 12:15, 1:45 and 3 p.m. and tickets cost $14/adults, $13/seniors and $12/children. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online at www.TriangleTrain.com. Any unsold tickets will be available at the rail yard the day of the ride.

Parties & Art Adventures by Lynne Fischer will be at the rail yard from 1-4 p.m. for face painting.
