Smith Anderson announced today that Gerald Roach has been named managing partner of the firm for a three-year term. Previously, Gerald served as chair of the firm’s Policy and Planning Committee for the last ten years. The office of managing partner is held by a full-time practicing lawyer and does not impact Gerald’s service time with clients.

Gerald’s practice focuses on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and advising boards and special committees. He regularly represents public and private growth companies and private equity firms with their general corporate needs and domestic and international transactions.

Gerald is listed as a Band One practitioner, the highest level of recognition, in Corporate/M&A in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers, where he is described by clients as “the go-to business lawyer for boards and CEOs in North Carolina.” He has been named the Raleigh “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers in America® for Mergers & Acquisitions Law (2014, 2012), Corporate Law (2013, 2009) and Securities Law (2010).

Gerald was recently named a 2016 BTI Client Service All-Star by BTI Consulting Group. He is one of 312 attorneys across the United States to be selected for this honor, which recognizes dedication to providing superior client service.

Gerald serves as vice chairman of the Board of Trustees at Wake Forest University and on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. Gerald is also an elder at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. He is a past chair of the Business Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
